A holiday with us at Hotel Witt in Berwang has lots of exciting activities to offer. There is a great deal to experience not just here in the village but throughout the Tiroler Zugspitz Arena! There are also several day trip destinations in Tyrol and Bavaria that are worth seeing, which can be reached easily from your three-star Hotel Witt. You can find a selection of day trip tips here that we can highly recommend to you:
The region’s namesake, the Zugspitze is Germany tallest mountain and the region’s highest peak at a proud 2,962 metres high. With the Tiroler Zugspitzbahn cable car you can get to Germany’s highest point in comfort in just 10 minutes and enjoy the breathtaking panoramic view over 4 countries from there – a highlight for everyone!
The Heiterwangersee and Plansee lakes await you just 20 kilometres away from the hotel. Clear, turquoise water surrounded by impressive mountain scenery – that’s what makes these two connected lakes a special outdoor experience where you almost feel like you’re in a Norwegian fjord. This exceptional view can be enjoyed in an extremely relaxed fashion during a boat trip.

You walk in the footsteps of Ötzi, the Stone Age “Ice Man”, in the Ötzi village in Umhausen in Tyrol’s Ötztal. How did people live roughly 5,000 years ago in Ötzi’s time? This archaeological outdoor park aims to familiarise visitors of all ages with life in the Neolithic period using interactive stations and events.

Neuschwanstein Castle is probably Germany’s most famous building and one of the most popular sights in Germany. The castle was built in 1869 as the idealised notion of a Medieval knight’s castle for King Louis II. More than 1 million people are attracted to Neuschwanstein every year and Hohenschwangau Castle opposite – hardly surprising as the buildings are simply remarkable!
Distance approx. 20 km.
You can immerse yourself in a long bygone time and the exciting world of knights and damsels at the Ehrenberg Castle Ensemble near Reutte. A variety of exhibitions make the day trip into the past an experience for the whole family. You also shouldn’t miss a walk over the highline 179, the longest Tibetan style pedestrian suspension bridge in the world that connects the castle ensemble’s building to each other – the ultimate thrill!
Distance approx. 40 km.
Linderhof Palace was also built by the Bavarian “Fairytale King” Louis II in the municipality of Ettal. The picturesque castle, vast gardens and fountain features with cascades are worth a visit!
Distance approx. 50 km.
One popular day trip destination in Bavaria is also the traditional Ettal Abbey, which was already founded in 1330. The richly decorated basilica, the abbey library with historic treasures and the vast abbey grounds can be viewed during a guided tour; you also get an insight into abbey life in the 21st century. Products from its own business can be tried and bought in the abbey shop.
